Milton Keynes (20 December 2024) – Today, UK based Medical Research Network (MRN), the innovative market-leader of international community-based clinical trial delivery, announces that the first clinical trial home visit has been conducted in Japan.
Japan is one of the many countries MRN is providing Home Trial Support (HTS) to in a global Alzheimer’s clinical study. Solutions such as HTS are critical in supporting critical research in Alzheimer’s and other chronic neurodivergent diseases.
MRN is a global leader in HTS services, having delivered over 111,000 in-home visits since its inception in 2006 globally. The HTS service brings clinical trial research visits to patients within their community – expanding trial reach and allowing patients from around the world to participate. Its innovative design, combined with MRN’s eClinical solutions, results in higher patient enrollment and retention rates while enabling more efficient, faster, and flexible trial delivery with high quality data.
Elaine Wylie, Chief International Development Officer at MRN said: “This is a milestone achievement for our Japan team. Introducing this service into the Japanese clinical trial environment has faced challenges, despite an uptick in Decentralized Trial Solutions (DCTs) during the Covid pandemic. The Clinical Trials Act, introduced in 2018, has seen additional administrative and financial burdens affect the number of clinical trials being run in Japan. It has also impacted site and sponsor willingness to move away from traditional trial models, something they are familiar with, and try newer methods, despite the long-term benefits DCTs have for both trials and patients. It makes this first home trial visit even more important as we push to break down participation barriers to clinical trials for patients on a global scale. With a growing pipeline of projects in Japan, this visit is just the beginning of many more to come.”
MRN is providing HTS support for a global study in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and anticipate enrolling the first HTS patients into the study in January 2025.
This announcement furthers MRN’s mission to provide the gold standard platform of clinical trial services designed to work together in synergy, bringing trials closer to patients, while making trials faster, more efficient, more inclusive, and more accessible for all patients and all research sites around the world.
